AI Funding MV: 50 Percent Grant Since Late June 2026
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has been funding AI adoption in SMEs with a 50% grant of up to €50,000 since 30.06.2026. Who benefits, what applies, how the application works.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern put its own AI funding into effect as of 30.06.2026: the directive for funding the application of Artificial Intelligence. Commercial small and medium-sized enterprises with up to 100 employees and a business location in MV receive a 50 percent grant for their AI project, up to a maximum of 50,000 euros. The directive is limited until 31.12.2027; according to the approval authority, the program budget is 1.5 million euros for 2026 and 2027. Approval is handled by TBI Technologie-Beratungs-Institut GmbH in Schwerin.
What Does the AI Directive MV Fund?
Hardware and software for introducing Artificial Intelligence into the business are funded. The directive names service delivery, logistics, marketing and sales, and IT security as fields of application. Accompanying consulting and training services are also eligible for funding, as long as they remain subordinate to the introduction project. A pure consulting project without an introduction does not fall under this directive; the BAFA consulting funding remains the appropriate program for that. Typical projects are an AI agent in order processing, a document AI for invoices and receipts, or an internal knowledge assistant based on the company's own data.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
- Company size: small and medium-sized enterprises in the commercial economy with up to 100 employees.
- Location: business location or branch in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
- State aid framework: the funding runs as de minimis aid; existing de minimis certificates from the past three years count against the available margin.
- Frequency: one project per company is funded within three years, so the scope should be well defined.
How Does the Application Work?
The application is submitted electronically via the MV Service Portal; an ELSTER organization certificate is required. Timing is decisive: the application must be submitted before the project starts, an already signed purchase or service contract makes the project ineligible for funding. Approval is handled by TBI GmbH, which also manages the state's other technology and innovation funding and provides personal advice in Schwerin, Rostock, and Neubrandenburg.
Why Waiting Does Not Pay Off
The budget of 1.5 million euros for two years is limited: at maximum utilization, it corresponds to around 30 projects. Approval is granted as long as funds are available. Anyone already planning an AI project should therefore not postpone the application until 2027. A sensible order is: first define the use case clearly, then obtain the offer as the basis for the application, then submit the application, and only place the order after receiving approval.
NordFlux accompanies exactly this path: in the free initial analysis we review the use case and funding requirements, the fixed-price offer serves as the basis for the application, and our team from Wismar handles the implementation. Details on the process are available on the page AI Funding MV; an overview of the use cases is provided on the page AI Agents.
Frequently Asked Questions About AI Funding MV
How High Is the Grant Under AI Funding MV?
The grant amounts to 50 percent of the eligible expenses, up to a maximum of 50,000 euros per project. One project per company is funded within three years; the directive is limited until 31.12.2027.
Does the Funding Also Cover Consulting and Training?
Yes, but only in a subordinate role: consulting and training services are eligible for funding if they are part of an introduction project involving hardware or software. A pure strategy project without an introduction does not belong under this directive, but rather under, for example, the BAFA consulting funding with an 80 percent grant in MV.
Where Is the Application Submitted?
Electronically via the MV Service Portal with an ELSTER organization certificate, and before the project starts. Approval is handled by TBI Technologie-Beratungs-Institut GmbH in Schwerin, which also provides personal advice on the requirements.
