Hamburg subsidizes consulting, Schleswig-Holstein supports small businesses, Bremen has a new AI fund, Lower Saxony refers to the federal government, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has several state programs at once. The problem

Funding landscape North: five states, five rulebooks.

What is funded in Hamburg doesn't exist in Lower Saxony, and what applied yesterday has expired today. Anyone wanting to digitalize in the North quickly loses days to guidelines instead of to their business.

  • 01Programs change constantly: the Lower Saxony Digital Bonus closed at the end of 2025, Bremen's AI grant has only been open since April 2026.
  • 02Deadlines run out quietly, in Hamburg for instance the Digital Check application deadline on 16.11.2026.
  • 03Company-size limits differ by state: sometimes under 50, sometimes up to 100 employees, sometimes the full SME definition.
  • 04Every application must go out before the project starts, and every agency wants different documents: service portals, ELSTER certificates, house bank.

Schleswig-Holstein: digitalization for small businesses

WTSH funds low-threshold digitalization projects in companies with under 50 workstations and at most 10 million euros in revenue or balance sheet total, with up to 40 percent. The Consulting module covers up to 20,000 euros in expenses, the Implementation module up to 200,000 euros. Applications must be filed before the project starts, and the guideline runs until 30.06.2027. Whether we qualify there as a service provider depends on WTSH's consultant criteria, which we clarify in advance.

Hamburg: Digital Check until 16.11.2026

The IFB's Hamburg Digital Check subsidizes consulting on information security and digital transformation with an implementation concept: 50 percent, up to 7,500 euros, for SMEs based in Hamburg. The IFB is accepting applications until 16.11.2026, or sooner if funds run out. We check what requirements the IFB places on consultants before every assignment.

Bremen: new fund for AI and automation

Since 01.04.2026, Bremen's Digitaler Mittelstand KI program pays up to 17,000 euros in grants for digitalization, AI, automation and cybersecurity; the program runs until the end of 2027. An initial consultation by the state's digital advisors is mandatory beforehand. If this initial consultation covers the project, we qualify for the implementation.

Lower Saxony: via the federal government instead of the state

There is currently no active state program for digitalization grants in Lower Saxony; the Digital Bonus expired on 31.12.2025. What remains are federal offers: the free Mittelstand-Digital centers for orientation and BAFA consulting funding, which pays 50 percent in the old states. Our BAFA listing is in preparation; we cannot currently offer subsidized BAFA consulting.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: several state programs

MV has been funding AI adoption since 30.06.2026 with 50 percent up to 50,000 euros, from 15,000 euros in expenses, or from 20,000 euros for companies with more than 50 employees. Added to this are the innovation consulting services of the FuEuI guideline at TBI and the MV Education Voucher for further training, which we check with you in the initial consultation. As a consultancy from Wismar, this is our home turf.

Location and funding check

In the funding check you see which programs qualify at your location. In the free initial consultation we review your project, state and company size in 30 minutes and name the fund, deadline and application route.

You receive a clearly defined offer suitable as documentation for WTSH, IFB, BAB or TBI. We're only commissioned after the application has been filed.

What businesses in the North often ask about funding.

What digitalization funding is available in Northern Germany in 2026?

Currently open are mainly: the Hamburg Digital Check (50 percent on consulting, up to 7,500 euros, applications until 16.11.2026), in Schleswig-Holstein the WTSH's DKU program (up to 40 percent for companies with under 50 workstations), in Bremen the Digitaler Mittelstand KI grant (up to 17,000 euros after a mandatory initial consultation), and in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern the MV AI funding (50 percent, up to 50,000 euros) as well as the MV Education Voucher. Lower Saxony currently has no state grant program of its own. You must file the application before the project starts in every case.

How does the Hamburg Digital Check work?

The IFB Hamburg's Digital Check subsidizes consulting on information security and digital transformation with an implementation concept at 50 percent, up to a maximum of 7,500 euros. Eligible are SMEs based in Hamburg, and the application must be filed before the consulting begins. As of now, applications are possible until 16.11.2026; the program ends sooner if funds are exhausted. Whether we qualify as consultants is clarified case by case.

Does the Lower Saxony Digital Bonus still exist?

No, the Lower Saxony Digital Bonus expired on 31.12.2025 and no successor has been announced so far. Lower Saxony businesses can use the free Mittelstand-Digital centers and the BAFA consulting grant, which pays 50 percent in the old states. Our BAFA listing is in preparation; we currently cannot offer subsidized BAFA consulting.

Does NordFlux also work outside Mecklenburg-Vorpommern?

Yes, we work throughout the northern German region and beyond in the DACH region. Hamburg and Lübeck are under an hour and a half from Wismar, and much of the work runs remotely anyway with fixed points of contact instead of a call center. The funding application is always filed by your company at its own location; we supply the application-ready documents.

Can several funding programs be combined?

Generally not for the same project, the same costs may only be subsidized once. Whether consulting and implementation at your location can be staggered across two programs is something we clarify in the initial conversation, before the first application goes out.
