Slush 2026: What an SME Consultant Looks For in Helsinki
What is on stage at Slush today becomes standard software in one to two years. Why I am heading back to Helsinki and what my clients get out of it.

If you support mid-sized companies with automation and AI, you need to know what is coming technologically before it shows up as a new product feature in the next software newsletter. That is why I am heading back to Slush in Helsinki this November.
What Slush 2026 has to do with northern German SMEs
Slush is one of the largest startup and technology conferences in the world, held every year in November in Helsinki. It brings together founders, investors and technology companies from more than 130 countries. For an automation provider based in Wismar, that may sound far removed at first.
The connection is direct nonetheless: what is on stage at Slush today typically resurfaces twelve to 24 months later as a new feature in Microsoft, SAP or
Last year I came back with more questions than answers, in the best sense. Three topics were strikingly present back then: agent-based AI systems, voice interfaces for business processes and privacy-compliant automation. All three are part of my day-to-day work today.
This time as a pair: Max Heyer of enum GmbH
This year I am not going alone, but together with Max Heyer of enum GmbH. Four eyes see more, and a second perspective from a different company context makes sure I do not only notice what confirms my existing expectations.
The plan is deliberately kept open. I want to learn things that I do not yet know I am looking for. That is not a contradiction to a clear agenda, it is the heart of it.
Three questions that are on my mind in 2026
Where does agent-based AI stand in practice? In 2025 there was still a lot of theory on stage. By now there are first real deployments. I want to see which of these are production-ready and which remain showcases.
How is AI telephony developing? Voice agents are a topic my mid-sized clients are actively asking about. I am watching what infrastructure sits behind it and how the provider market is developing.
What is happening with data protection and on-premise AI? This is decisive precisely for public institutions and companies with sensitive data. The European GDPR perspective is being brought into Slush more and more actively, which increases its relevance for clients in the DACH region.
From trips like these I do not bring back buzzwords, but an assessment of what among the things I saw actually holds up in everyday northern German practice.
What you will find here afterwards
After I return, a follow-up report will appear here with concrete impressions and an assessment for SMEs and public administrations. I will record there which developments could have a direct impact on automation projects.
If you do not want to wait and want to assess now where automation could start in your company, it is worth taking a look at our services, or you can book a free initial analysis directly.
