According to Microsoft Learn, neither the package size nor the pay-as-you-go rate has changed, so this is a renaming of the billing unit, not a price change. Copilot Credits are now the common basis for pay-as-you-go payments, prepaid plans, and credit packages.

How many Copilot Credits does an agent interaction cost?

The cost depends on the type of action, not on the number of messages. According to the current billing rates:

• Classic answer: 1 Copilot Credit for a pre-written, static answer.
• Generative answer: 2 Copilot Credits for an AI-generated answer.
• Agent action: 5 Copilot Credits, for example for a trigger or topic handoff.
• Tenant Graph Grounding: 10 Copilot Credits when the agent accesses enterprise-wide Microsoft Graph data for an answer.
• Agent Flow actions: 13 Copilot Credits per 100 actions.
• AI Tools: depending on model tier, 1, 15, or 100 Copilot Credits per 10 answers (Basic, Standard, Premium).

Microsoft calculates in its own example for a customer service agent: with an average of four classic and two generative answers per run and 900 customer contacts per day, approximately 7,200 Copilot Credits are generated daily. Users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license do not pay extra for many employee-side usage scenarios, as long as the interaction is authenticated through the licensed user.

Which payment models are available?

Copilot Studio can be licensed in several ways:

• Prepaid Copilot Studio subscription: a pool of Copilot Credits per tenant, usable across all supported channels.
• Pay-as-you-go via Azure: An environment is linked to an Azure subscription via a billing policy, with only the actually consumed amount billed at month-end.
• Copilot Credits Prepayment Plan: a one-year, prepaid pool of Copilot Credit Commit Units, purchasable via the Azure portal.
• Microsoft 365 Copilot license: covers certain Copilot Studio features within Microsoft 365, Teams, and SharePoint.

What happens if capacity is exceeded?

Ongoing conversations are not interrupted, but new requests are rejected until capacity is purchased, reallocated, or a pay-as-you-go meter is activated. Power Automate Cloud Flows are explicitly excluded, as they run on separate Power Automate licensing and not on Copilot Credits.
